Scary Movie 3 should probably come with a warning: TO (Teenagers Only).
It should definitely come with a "Park Your Brain at the Door" notice. Okay, I have to admit its been a few years since I was a teenager but I still found plenty to laugh at in this third instalment in the Scary Movie series. Thankfully director David Zucker (of Flying High and Naked Gun fame) has taken over the helm of number three and done a pretty decent job at spoofing several recent scary box-office hits like The Ring, Signs, The Others and 8 Mile.. (Well, I thought 8 Mile was scary!)
Scary Movie regular Anna Farris (now a blonde), stars as TV reporter Cindy. She's investigating several bizarre crop circle incidents at a farmhouse owned by former clergyman Tom (Charlie Sheen) when she hears rumours about a killer video. When her best friend Brenda (Regina Hall) falls victim to the deadly video, Cindy fears for the safety of her orphaned nephew Cody.
But are the crop circles and the video connected in some way? Apparently so, according to the Oracle (Queen Latifah) and the answer is hidden in a lighthouse.. Meanwhile Tom's brother George (Simon Rex) is keen to make it as a rapper.. Make any sense? No!
But more importantly is it funny? At times yes, but only if you've seen most of the aforementioned movies, including The Matrix. Otherwise forget it! You don't have to be a rocket scientist - or Stephen King - to know Scary Movie 3 won't appeal to everyone. There's nothing subtle about this film. The jokes come thick and fast, some are laugh-out-loud funny, some are crude and many don't even raise a chuckle. Let's face it, the whole thing is pretty silly. And "The dogs are acting strange" really cracked me up! But then, nobody is expecting Oscar-winning material here, just a few decent laughs and if you're in the mood for this kind of silliness then Scary Movie 3 delivers.
