Last tickets to business awards

The Lismore branch of the Commonwealth Bank will arrive at the Lismore Business Awards in style on Saturday night, after winning a ride in a limousine. Graeme Herne, Chris Ivers, Leesa Battistuzzi, Harry Wheeler, Peter Hagerty and Brian Johnson will be picked up by Lismore Luxury Limousines and delivered to the red carpet entrance of the Workers Club after winning a competition. The 2008 Lismore Business Awards have a Hollywood theme and begin at 6.30pm with pre-dinner drinks followed by a scrumptious three-course meal. Tickets are $95 per person (tables of 6, 10 or 12) and available now from the Life Saver Rescue Helicopter (phone 6627 4444 for more info). The awards are being organised by the Life Saver Rescue Helicopter in conjunction with the Lismore Chamber of Commerce. Part of the proceeds from the night will go to the rescue helicopter service. More than 100 people attended the Lismore Community Action Network’s Meet the Candidates night on Tuesday at the Uniting Church, where the biggest surprises were two no-shows, a proposed road toll, the Country Labor candidate giving the state Labor government a serve and a prospective mayor showing he had already learned the valuable political skill of avoiding answering difficult questions. We had the underwater microphone checking for whales singing. There were none in sight for us or the spotters on the headlands so listening is a good technique to assess proximity. Song can travel for many miles through water. Sure enough, there was a whale in full voice in near waters and we just had to find him. (Only the males sing). Full Article

A small child was seriously hurt in a single motor vehicle accident on the Evans Head/Woodburn road at 4.46am last Thursday morning. The child was in a serious condition and was conveyed to Lismore Base Hospital and was expected to be airlifted to Brisbane that day. The mother, who was driving, was conveyed to Ballina Hospital with a fractured leg. Full Article
